Interruption Strategies in Turn-Taking: A Contrastive Study of the Talk Shows “Ini Talkshow” And “Odoru! Sanma Goten!!”

In this study, interruption strategies in turn-taking in two talk shows, namely "Ini Talkshow" from Indonesia and "Odoru! Sanma Goten!!" from Japan, are analyzed. By applying a descriptive qualitative research method and contrastive pragmatic perspective, this study aims to examine interruption strategies in terms of time, role, context, and communicative functions. Based on the study, interruption strategies in "Ini Talkshow" are used for creating humor and creating social closeness, reflecting the Indonesian communication pattern of interactive communication. On the other hand, interruption strategies in "Odoru! Sanma Goten!!" are used for several communicative functions, including clarification, sharing experiences, and discussion flow. This study revealed that interruption strategies are affected by both contextual and cultural communication factors.
