Abstract

This research aims to analyze the character of Rachel Chu in Crazy Rich Asian movie as a representation of independent modern women, using the Liberal Feminism in showing the independence of Rachel Chu’s character in her interactions. The method that used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Liberal feminism involves gender equality through individual freedom, independence, and also self-empowerment, which is depicted in several actions and decisions of the main character Rachel Chu in her narrative as a representation of modern women. This research reveals based on analysis of the main character Rachel Chu in Crazy Rich Asian Movie who is identified as an independent woman through her bravery in confronting those who wronged her, her freedom to choose her own decision, and also her courage to use assertive language in her interaction
