Abstract

The focus of this research is to investigate how character M in the movie does the act of oppression consciously to his grandmother and acknowledges his motive. The point of the research points out about how M’s motives initiate manipulation. Applying a descriptive qualitative method, this research explores M’s mental experiences. Analyzing data collection with Freud’s psychoanalysis theory, M’s utterances were examined using Grice’s implicature theory. The results indicates that M's deliberate actions and conscious awareness are crucial to his decision-making process. Additionally, he uses language as a primary instrument to mold and strengthen his manipulative intentions. The study comes to the conclusion that communication, especially when done strategically, can lead to harmful interpersonal dynamics and make manipulation easier.
